After more than three decades at Recion, Pekka Hakala is stepping into retirement at the end of February 2026. Joining the company in 1995 as a welder, Pekka has built a long career marked by skill, teamwork and commitment to safety. As he closes this chapter, he hopes to see more young people entering the field and joining the team at Recion.
Hi Pekka! What first brought you to Recion, and what made you stay over the years?
It was difficult to find work in my field in my hometown at the time. When pipe welding courses were offered at a training center, I took the opportunity, and that eventually led me to a job at Recion. I started working as a welder, and I have continued in that role ever since.
It’s been a pleasure working alongside such a great group of people, and we’ve built strong bonds over the years. The strong focus on safety at work also deserves special recognition.
What have you enjoyed most about working here over the years?
The great coworkers have been one of the best things. Welders have been trusted to do their jobs properly, without unnecessary pressure. Even during busy periods, there has never been any pointless rushing. Another thing worth mentioning – wages have always been paid on time.
Tell us about a memorable moment from your time at Recion!
Back in the day, it was difficult to get proper safety glasses from the company. At one point, one of my coworkers had to make it clear that he either needed glasses or would have to get himself a guide dog. Only then did site management finally approve the purchase.
Fortunately, things have come a long way since then and safety glasses are now easy to get when needed. Nowadays, welders also undergo an annual vision test. Good eyesight is essential when working with piping and just as important for safety.
Thank you, Pekka, for all your years at Recion! We wish you all the best in your retirement and hope you enjoy every moment of this new chapter!
