Our story goes back to 1872, when Swiss engineer Robert Huber stood at a major career crossroads. Given the choice between Naples, Odessa, and Helsinki to build his first municipal water network, he headed north. That decision laid the foundation for a piping heritage that directly shapes Recion today.
At the time, Helsinki relied on contaminated wells and natural streams, facing recurring water shortages and vulnerability to city fires. The city commissioned its first central water network, with Huber leading the construction and later establishing a dedicated workshop for specialized piping. Clean tap water soon became known in local slang simply as “huuper” – making a glass of water synonymous with Huber’s name.
As industry modernized, that specialized piping expertise expanded into heavy industrial plants and power facilities. While ownership and company names have evolved into today’s Recion, the fundamental conviction has not changed across 150 years. Whether laying early water networks or engineering Safety Class 1 nuclear lines – when society depends on critical infrastructure, there is simply no room for leaks.
