On September 7, 1976, the Ylivieska factory officially opened its doors. Back then, there wasn’t a single computer in sight, Swedish was the only language spoken in the office, and induction bending was groundbreaking technology. The mission from the start was clear: streamline pipe manufacturing for the shipbuilding industry.
A lot has happened over the past five decades. We’ve changed our name more times than we can count, continually expanded our operations, and grown from a shipyard supplier into a key partner for industrial projects within the energy, nuclear, and process sector.
While the signs on the facade have shifted, one thing has remained constant: the deep expertise within these walls and the pride in our craft. This year, our Ylivieska plant turns 50. We are celebrating this milestone by honoring our history, thanking our long-standing partners, and celebrating the fantastic people who built this factory into what it is today.
A few highlights along the way
1976 – Day one
The factory opens its doors and the hot-dip galvanizing zinc kettle is filled for the very first time.
1979 – Nordic pioneer
The factory invests in the first induction bending machine in Northern Europe – acquired through a countertrade arrangement with the USSR.
1986 – Going digital
The sales department gets its very first shared computer, used primarily to log quotation numbers.
1992 – Power plant operations
Energy capabilities grow as a 70-person power plant division is integrated into the business.
2008 – Making room
A new production hall, Hall E, is completed to provide much-needed space for growing operations.
2014 – Galvanizing expansion
The galvanizing line is expanded and commissioned into production use.
2026 – Celebrating 50 years
The Ylivieska factory reaches its half-century milestone, now covering approximately 13,500 m² of production space.
