Prefabrication at appropriate workshop with professional workforce brings great advantages to a piping project. As the working conditions at installation site are often challenging, prefabrication at workshop not only is cost-saving but also decreases installation time and increases work safety. In a well-planned project, 70% or even 80% of the welds can be done at workshop.
50-year experience
At our Ylivieska workshop we have already 50 years’ experience of delivering prefabricated piping to many kinds of industries and projects. Typical targets of our customer projects include power boilers, recovery boilers, nuclear power plants, as well as petrochemical plants and refineries. Our products and services are also commonly used by the shipbuilding industry, mining industry, process industry, and the oil and gas drilling sector. We work in compliance with PED/EN, ASME, or industry-specific product standards. We can proudly say that we have the know-how, methods, machines, tools and the people to produce efficient results and successful projects. This article provides a brief overview of how we do it.
Advantage starts from the design
The greatest advantage that can be achieved from our prefabrication starts already at design or procurement phase; by replacing elbows with bending, there will be much less welding and inspection. Material procurement is also easier as there are less parts, which are just replaced with a bit more pipe material. The less welding, the less expenses, risks, and lead time there is. You can read more about our versatile pipe-bending capability in Ylivieska Workshop – Processes and Methods.
Welding at our workshop
We have found out that welding at site is about 3 to 5 times more expensive than in workshop (depending on the case). By transferring three-quarters of the project welds from site to workshop, this will bring major savings. Welding at factory conditions is faster, more reliable and safer than at site. We have dozens of experienced welders working at our factory with the support of expert welding engineers, and our database includes already over 1000 WPS’s. We also have our own NDT inspectors and heat treatment furnaces at our workshop.
Challenges at installation site – we have the solution
As mentioned before, conditions at site may be difficult and vary. Workers at site are exposed to dust, noise, moisture, wind, challenging temperatures, difficult working positions, confined or narrow spaces, poor lighting and shades. At our workshop, we have steady conditions, safe and reliable machines and methods, and skilled workforce to fabricate dimension-accurate piping spools. These ready-made spools are then easy to deliver, store and install at site. As both prefabrication and installation can proceed at same time, this shortens the project lead time. Our workshop functions as the primary storage for project piping materials, providing spools as scheduled and freeing up critical space at the site.
Precise estimate for expenses and lead time
Our experienced sales personnel assist in determining the optimal prefabrication scope for each piping project. This will lead to more precise estimate for both project expense and lead time. We are here to help you to achieve successful project implementation and excellent customer satisfaction.
